Commit messages, PR text, Slack, prompts: spoken, spelled right.
Zumbo started in a terminal. It is the only part of this job that never needed a mouse, and now it does not need the keyboard either.
The words other engines get wrong
General dictation was trained on general speech, so it writes “post gres”, “cube cuddle” and “ex code”. The Devtools pack alone carries 173 terms; the Languages, Go, AWS, Cloud and Formats packs add the rest of the stack. Turn on the ones you actually use and the names land correctly the first time.
Teach it once
When it still gets a word wrong, select it, type what you meant, press Teach. Your own words sit above every pack and never leave the Mac, which matters when the word is a client name or an unreleased product.
Where it types
Terminal and iTerm2, Xcode, VS Code, Cursor, the Claude Code prompt, GitHub in a browser, Linear, Slack. Zumbo types where the cursor is, so anywhere you can focus a field is a place it works. Escape cancels a recording mid-sentence.
Prompts are the surprise
Long agent prompts are where dictation earns its price. Describing a refactor out loud takes a quarter of the time typing it does, and the result reads more like the thing you actually meant.
