Notion is where the writing you keep meaning to do lives. The gap between meaning to and doing it is usually the length of the paragraph.
The pages that stay empty
Every Notion workspace has the same archaeology: a structure somebody built carefully, and inside it a lot of pages with a good title and nothing underneath. The decision log with four entries from the month it was set up. The onboarding doc that stops halfway. The project page with the tasks filled in and the context missing.
None of that is a discipline problem. The title took four seconds and the body takes eleven minutes, and the eleven minutes were never available. Saying the same body out loud takes about ninety seconds.
How it works
Hold it to talk, tap it to toggle, Escape cancels. Pick the key in Settings.
There is nothing to install on the Notion side, and no difference between the desktop app and a browser tab. Zumbo types into whatever has the cursor.
- Put the cursor in the page, the property, the comment or the title.
- Hold your shortcut, which you chose in Settings during setup.
- Talk for as long as you need. There is no session limit.
- Let go. The text lands in about a fifth of a second, punctuated.
Notion's own markdown shortcuts still apply to what arrives, so a line that starts with a dash becomes a bullet exactly as if you had typed it.
Where it changes the workspace
- Decision logs, written while the reasoning is still in your head rather than reconstructed later.
- Meeting notes, where the summary matters more than the transcript.
- Project context: what this is, who asked, what we decided not to do.
- Handovers, which are the highest value writing in any workspace and the least likely to exist.
- The comment explaining why a database property means what it means.
Product and people names
A workspace is mostly proper nouns: internal tools, customers, colleagues, the codename for the thing you are building. A general speech model turns each into the nearest ordinary word. Correct one with Teach, which takes about three seconds, and it is heard your way from then on. The corrections stay on your Mac.
For a live meeting
Dictation is for writing the page. For a conversation happening now, Meeting mode transcribes the room through the microphone with a timestamp for each paragraph and each speaker labelled, and keeps it in Zumbo's own history on the Mac. On a call, use the speakers rather than headphones so the other side is picked up too.

Does Notion have dictation on the Mac?
Not a general one for typing into pages. System wide dictation covers it instead, and works the same in the desktop app and in a browser tab.
Will it work inside a database property or a comment?
Yes. Zumbo types where the cursor is, so page body, a text property in a database, a comment, a page title and the search box all behave the same.
Does it insert Notion blocks?
No. It types text. Notion's own markdown shortcuts still work on what you dictated, so a dash at the start of a line becomes a bullet exactly as if you had typed it.
Can I dictate meeting notes straight into a page?
You can dictate into the page, and for a live meeting there is Meeting mode, which transcribes the room with each speaker labelled and keeps it inside Zumbo on the Mac.
Does anything get uploaded to transcribe it?
No. The speech engine ships inside the app and composes on your Mac. Whatever Notion then syncs is unchanged by this.
